The Bennington Farm to Plate Council grew out of a loose collective that formed to address the issues and ideas brought up by the wildly successful and well-attended Bennington Farm to Plate Summit in November 2009.
It became clear that following up on the success of the summit would be difficult without an organization dedicated to just such a task. We envisioned a group that would act as a clearing house linking the resources and stakeholders within our food system so that they can better collaborate toward farm viability and food security for Bennington.
As a new group, our main goal is to inventory our resources, engage in strategic planning, and create a food council that will promote the development of a food system that honors the integral roles of healthy farms, healthy people and a healthy economy.
